Nelson is one of Douglas County’s smallest communities — about 180 people on State Highway 27 — first platted as “Dent” and renamed in 1881 for Knute Nelson, the Minnesota governor and U.S. senator. It’s a close-knit rural town, and we serve it from Alexandria just up the road.

June 20–21, 2022. A severe overnight storm moved across Douglas County. The Minnesota DNR documented a death and a hospitalization near Alexandria when the storm blew a tree onto a camper at a resort on the west side of Lake Mary, along with widespread tree damage throughout the Alexandria area — one of several rounds of severe storms to hit the county that summer.
