A railroad village on the Central Lakes Trail

Brandon grew up along the railroad — the town site was laid out in 1879 as the tracks pushed through — and today the paved Central Lakes State Trail runs right through this community of about 500. It’s a close-knit, historic small town, and many of the homes here have weathered a great many Minnesota seasons.

June 20–21, 2022. A severe overnight storm moved across Douglas County. The Minnesota DNR documented a death and a hospitalization near Alexandria when the storm blew a tree onto a camper at a resort on the west side of Lake Mary, along with widespread tree damage throughout the Alexandria area — one of several rounds of severe storms to hit the county that summer.
