Elbow Lake is the Grant County seat, sitting on the lake that shares its name north of Alexandria. Homes here take the full brunt of prairie wind, hail, and hard winters, and we cover the area regularly — full roof replacements, repairs, and storm- and hail-damage restoration — with straight answers about what your home’s exterior needs from a comprehensive inspection and honest documentation, including help with an insurance claim when the damage is real.
Elbow Lake, the Grant County seat, sits just up the road from our Alexandria base — close enough that Grant County is genuinely part of our regular territory. The crew that inspects your roof estimates it and does the work.
Elbow Lake is the seat of Grant County, and its 1906 Beaux-Arts courthouse — a three-story landmark with a 102-foot dome, brownstone exterior and marble interior, listed on the National Register — anchors the town. At around 1,300 people it’s the largest of the Grant County communities we serve, with a real mix of historic and newer homes.
West-central Minnesota winters are long. Ice dams form when heat escaping the home melts snow on the upper roof and the runoff refreezes at the colder eaves, backing water under the shingles. An inspection can flag exterior damage and the warning signs before they reach the interior.
A storm passing through doesn’t automatically mean your roof is damaged, and we won’t say it is when it isn’t. Plenty of our inspections end with no work needed — and that honest answer is exactly what earns a callback down the road.
Roofing (repair and full replacement), siding, and storm-damage documentation. Our workmanship carries a 5-year warranty, separate from the manufacturer’s material warranty on what we install. For storm work we document the exterior conditions we observe and prepare a construction scope and repair estimate as your contractor — we don’t interpret insurance coverage, act as your public adjuster, or negotiate your claim. Primary-source record — National Weather Service (Grand Forks) storm survey. Reviewed July 2026.
July 8, 2020. An EF-4 tornado — the National Weather Service’s strongest damage category — tracked about nine miles across Grant and Otter Tail counties near Ashby, with peak winds estimated near 170 mph. The NWS storm survey documented at least ten farmsteads hit, three homes and multiple outbuildings destroyed, and a well-built two-story house swept off its foundation. It remains the most powerful tornado on record in this part of west-central Minnesota.
Elbow Lake sits in Grant County — the same county the NWS surveyed for that tornado — so homes here share the same severe-storm and freeze-thaw exposure. When a storm does hit, we inspect it in person and tell you straight what your home’s exterior needs from a comprehensive inspection and honest documentation, including help with an insurance claim when the damage is real.
